Populism (Illiberal)

Illiberal populism describes political movements or leaders who claim to represent the 'true people' against corrupt elites, while simultaneously undermining democratic norms and pluralism. These actors may erode institutional checks and balances, challenge judicial independence, or restrict fundamental rights. While often elected democratically, their practices weaken liberal democratic structures from within. The rise of such movements is linked to growing dissatisfaction with traditional political systems.
