Uniwersytet im. Adama Mickiewicza w Poznaniu

Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan is one of Poland's leading universities, with around 40,000 students and almost 3,000 academic staff. AMU has a strong interdisciplinary profile, encompassing the natural sciences, social sciences and humanities. The Faculty of Sociology at AMU is one of the oldest sociological centres in Poland, founded in the early 1920s by the world-renowned scholar Florian Znaniecki, among others. Sociological research includes environmental sociology, civic activism and social movements, urban sociology, sociology of everyday life, social inequalities, and quantitative methods and research.

Role in the project

Adam Mickiewicz University leads the Trans4Demo project and its consortium. In addition to coordinating Trans4Demo activities (WP1), AMU is actively involved in all remaining work packages (WP2-WP8), including theorising, empirical research and policy impact.

Nordisk institutt for studier av innovasjon, forskning og utdanning

Nordic Institute for Studies of innovation, research and education (NIFU) is a research institute based in Oslo, Norway. NIFU's research is characterised by scientific quality, strong sectoral expertise and good insight into knowledge policy issues. The researchers involved in Trans4Demo are specialised in sustainability transition studies and policy analysis.

Role in the project

NIFU is leading WP4, which will explore novel repertoires of engagement as a way of responding to critiques of current representative democratic mechanisms. This includes using the future as a novel site for examining the future of democracy and working with the Miljøagentene/The Eco Agents on a children's climate report. NIFU will also lead the comparative analysis between the case studies in WP3.

Linköpings Universitet

Linköping University (LiU) is one of Sweden's larger academic institutions, with around 27,000 students and 4,000 staff. LiU has a strong interdisciplinary orientation and has worked with innovation in education and research. The Division of Technology and Social Change is one of Europe's largest science, technology and innovation studies departments with one of its research focuses on societal transformation.

Role in the project

LiU will take the lead in developing a common research protocol for the project's empirical case studies. LiU will explore innovative forms of engagement and mobilisation to influence sustainability transitions and identify novel democratic sites for such engagement. In addition, LiU will co-organise a policy lab in Sweden, conduct a national case study and co-lead the writing of a handbook on artistic and educational interventions.

Institut für ökologische Wirtschaftsforschung

The IÖW is a leading independent research institute in the field of sustainability research based in Berlin, Germany, with more than 40 researchers. IÖW brings to Trans4Demo their expertise on social movements and civil society actors in the context of sustainability transitions, on the politics and governance of transitions in general, and their experience with inter- and transdisciplinary research.

Role in the project

IÖW will coordinate the country case studies on the causes and consequences of contestation in sustainability transitions and conduct a German case study. The IÖW team will also contribute to the analysis of novel sites and repertoires of democratic renewal by analysing the Citizens' Council on the Future of Food and conducting a Future Literacy Lab.

Rijksuniversiteit Groningen

The University of Groningen (RUG) is a public research university with more than 30,000 students, located in the city of Groningen in the north of the Netherlands. Researchers from the Faculty of Science and Engineering and the Faculty of Arts are involved in Trans4Demo.

Role in the project

The University of Groningen is leading WP5 on stakeholder consultation and policy recommendations. This includes analysis of media and discursive frames and narratives: their nature, rhetorical design, patterns of use and effects. This includes co-organising policy labs to explore stakeholder perceptions of new democratic designs.

Roskilde Universitet

Roskilde University (RUC) is a public university located about 30 minutes from Copenhagen on a beautiful rural campus in Roskilde Kommune. It has about 900 employees and about 6900 students. RUC has four institutes: People and Technology, Social Sciences and Economics, Science and Environment and Communication and Arts. The first two are participating in Trans4demo.

Role in the project

The RUC will lead WP2 on types of political protest and opposition. The team will take a leading role in developing a typology of repertoires of action and competing conceptions of crisis, as well as procedures for collecting empirical data using the typology. The team will also participate in WP4, which focuses on the study of prefigurative practices, i.e. initiatives that seek to actualise a vision of collective life in response to climate and environmental crises, and will contribute to the study of innovative forms of mobilisation and engagement, as well as to the facilitation of literacy labs and children's climate reports.

The Hebrew University of Jerusalem

The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, established in 1918 and opened in 1925, is Israel’s second-oldest and one of its most esteemed universities. Located in a city with rich historical and cultural importance, the university is not only distinguished for its unique setting but also for its outstanding academic and research excellence. Renowned for high educational and research standards, Hebrew University offers a broad spectrum of disciplines. Its comprehensive academic offerings include undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs in the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, law, and medicine. Among its prominent departments, the Department of Political Science and the School of Public Policy stand out for their significant contributions to political science, public administration, and policy analysis. These departments emphasise a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical skills, preparing students for leadership in various sectors.

The Lisbon Council

The Lisbon Council for Economic Competitiveness and Social Renewal asbl is a Brussels-based think tank and policy network. Founded in Belgium in 2003 as a non-profit and non-partisan association, its mission is to make a positive contribution through cutting-edge research and by engaging policy-makers and the public at large in a constructive exchange on the economic and social challenges of the 21st century.

Role in the project

In Trans4Demo, the Lisbon Council will be the lead partner for communication, dissemination, exploitation and sustainability activities (WP6). The Lisbon Council will also lead the drafting and editorial review of the policy briefs and the organisation of the three policy events with support from the project partners, while also supporting the Policy Lab's evaluation of the recommendations (T5.3).

Miljøagentene

Miljøagentene/The Eco Agents is the children's environmental organisation. We want a world where people know, act and live according to the limits of nature. That is why it is important that all children believe in the future and that it makes sense to do something for a cleaner environment and a safer future! All Eco Agents can take part in discovering our amazing nature and work together so that everyone can take better care of our planet.

Role in the project

Miljøagentene/The Eco Agents will support research into new forms of engagement in Norway, especially in relation to children's involvement in environmental issues.

Green Transition Denmark

Green Transition Denmark is an independent climate and environmental organisation focusing on a green and sustainable transformation of society. We communicate knowledge about problems and solutions to politicians, businesses and citizens, and take part in the public debate on a wide range of issues within the climate and environmental agenda.

Role in the project

Green Transition Denmark will support research on new forms of engagement and prefigurative practices in Denmark. Contribute to the formulation of policy recommendations and policy briefs for Danish MPs, MEPs and advisors. Participate in workshops and co-organise various events in Denmark.

Fundacja Nowej Wspólnoty

The NCF is a Polish NGO specialized in depolarization solutions for Poland and beyond. They are developing and testing formats of conversation between citizens that help reduce affective polarization and increase a sense of community in ideologically-divided groups. Their approach combines the latest scientific research with robust field practice and agile project execution.

Israeli energy forum

The Israeli Energy Forum has been working since 2008 to promote the transition to a renewable energy-based economy. Today, more than ever, the necessity of utilizing residential areas to produce renewable energy is evident. These areas make up the majority of the built-up area, and making them part of the solution is necessary in order to meet the required goals in the face of the climate-environmental crisis.

The need to move to an economy based on renewable energy is also a significant opportunity to promote energy-community resilience throughout the various cities in the country, mitigate energy poverty and strengthen the community, for a secure and green future for us and future generations.
